Taking Care of Your Muscle Car or Classic Truck

Image
Owning a muscle car or classic truck is a joy all in itself. Like any other collectible, it’s essential that you take extra care to preserve its beauty and functionality, especially after having it restored! At  Farm Boy Garage , we want to share some tips with you on  maintaining your classic ride  properly to help you keep your ride looking its best after having it fully restored by yours truly. Take a look: Keep it Covered When you're not driving it, you should always have your classic ride covered or parked in a garage. Rain, wind, and sun can be a classic car's worst enemy when left exposed. Prolonged exposure to water promotes the development of rust. Wind can blow objects into your car, resulting in scratches and dents. Direct sunlight can cause excessive heat, which can warp panels, fade interior, and cause leathers to dry and crack. Covering your vehicle or parking it in a garage will shield and protect it from the elements. Being proactive about protecting...

Top 5 American-Made Muscle Cars

Image
The 1960s began the birth of American muscle cars. American automakers began stuffing the biggest engines they could find into the smallest, lightest chassis that would hold them. Performance was the most important consideration put into building these top-dog legendary cars. As Fourth of July draws near, we thought it would be fun to celebrate this spectacular holiday by looking back at some of the most iconic American-made muscle cars ever created. Check out Farm Boy Garage 's list of "Top 5 American-Made Muscle Cars"! 1. Pontiac GTO It wasn’t the fastest, the most powerful or the most outrageous muscle car, but Pontiac’s GTO makes the top of the muscle car pantheon because it was the first: the car that gave birth to the muscle car genre. This high-performance automobile put muscle cars on the map, thus leading it to start the list of our 'Top 5 American Muscle Cars'. The GTO was one of the fastest production cars of 1964. Its only real street competition...

4 Tips for Picking the Right Project Car

Image
If you've been considering buying a project car, a quick and hasty purchase without proper research is not advisable. Choosing the right muscle car, vintage automobile or classic pickup truck is an important part of your decision making, but there are other factors to think about, too. Here are 4 tips for picking the right project car . Make Sure the Car You Choose will Retain Value Finding old cars for sale that need restoration won't be a problem. Finding old cars that hold their value or will significantly increase value after restoration is a whole different story. Some vehicles will never hold value worth your money put in no matter how carefully they're restored. Take time to do extensive research to determine which models are more valuable and don't impulsively settle on a particular model just because you're fond of it. A car with appreciation potential might cost more to buy, but it's important to remember that the cost of the car is only a smal...

Collector Worthy: Chevrolet C-10 Pickup

Image
If you're looking for a vintage pickup, it's hard to go wrong with a Chevy C10. They're great drivers, parts are readily available and they're easy on the eyes. Plus, the C10 played an important role in the history of Chevrolet trucks, eventually leading to the creation of the Silverado. With that said, Farm Boy Garage takes a deeper look into the truck that paved the way for the future of light-duty and heavy-duty pickups. What is a Chevy C10? The Chevy C10 was the half-ton two-wheel drive model within the C/K line of trucks that originated in 1960. Originally available in a 6.5-foot bed with a 115-inch wheelbase and an 8-foot bed with a 127-inch wheelbase, the C10 was a new truck for Chevrolet. The C10 had improved weight distribution thanks to the increased load capacity of the front axle, as well as a larger cab and bigger windshield. The Stepside featured rear wheels located on the outside of the truck bed and had a step mounted between the wheel wells and t...

Muscle Car Showboating: Burnouts

Image
Any muscle car enthusiast would agree that there’s nothing as satisfying as laying some tread and producing a glorious cloud of smoke that's guaranteed to turn heads. Burnouts allow racers to heat and clean their tires. Doing a burnout on street tires makes a lot of smoke, removes layers of expensive rubber, and accomplishes nothing of dynamic significance. But it does elicit a big grin from the driver and perhaps the police officer who will write the ticket for an "unsafe start." Burnouts Actually Serve a Purpose Sure they’re fun, but burnouts actually serve a useful function in drag racing. The purpose of a burnout is to remove foreign matter from your tires that might be collected while rolling around in the pits. Burnouts occur when the power going to the car's wheels makes them lose traction with the road, causing them to spin in place. The heat caused by the friction between the tires and road surface melts the rubber, causing smoke. Tire smoke is ...
