Summer Upkeep Tips for Your Classic Car

Here are a few things you may want to do BEFORE taking your classic car out this summer.

Check out the interior.

Take a look inside your car and check out the windshield. Your classic car has probably been sitting for a long time. Make sure the windshield didn't get damaged somehow over all that time. Check for cracks and leaks. Turn the air conditioner on while you're in there and check to make sure that still works properly.

Check out the exterior.

Take a walk around your classic car and check for chips in your paint. You'll also want to look to:

  • See if your windshield wipers are catching at all.
  • See if the side mirrors are clean and easy to see out of.
  • See if the headlights and rear lights are still working properly.
  • Check the tire pressure.

Be mindful when washing the classic car.

Check your car for dents or chips in paint BEFORE you wash it. You don't want to make the damage worse. If you do notice a dent or crack, call your classic car restoration shop first.

Pop the hood and inspect for damage.

Make sure critters haven't found their way into your engine over the colder months. Look for holes in your wiring and make sure all is good before trying to start it.

If possible, drive it and listen carefully.

If you've deemed your classic car safe to drive at this point, then take it out for a short drive and listen for any abnormal sounds. If you hear a squealing or grinding sound, that may mean you have some mechanical problems that need to be fixed.
