How to Enjoy Your Classic Car This Fall

Summer is winding down and soon the leaves will be falling, but don’t put your classic car away for the winter just yet! You and your ride deserve to enjoy more than just the summer months. Let’s take advantage of the cooler temps and plan to get out and enjoy the autumn foliage. Farm Boy Garage would like to share some road trip ideas to see some of the best fall colors.

Driftless Area Scenic Byway

A great road trip in your classic car is the Driftless Area Scenic Byway. Spend a cool fall day on the 144-mile strip in Northwest Iowa. This is the most scenic state road in Iowa. It is also home of the Effigy Mounds National Monument which is known for the largest collection of American Indian burial grounds in the U.S.

Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad

Capture some amazing scenery aboard the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad in Boone, Iowa. They offer daily train rides in various forms of historic railroad equipment. In October, plan to take the family on a ride on the Pumpkin Express and enjoy a visit to the Railroads very own pumpkin patch.

Jester Park Equestrian Center

How does a horse-drawn wagon ride through the fall foliage sound? The Jester Park Equestrian Center has been a fall time favorite since 1958. Just outside of Des Moines, in Granger, plan your fall time adventure with JPEC today.

Harvestville Farm

Here is an awesome family fall attraction. In Donnellson, at Harvestville Farm, through the month of September and October, there are 40 acres of pumpkins, squash, and gourds. The kids will have fun in the 10-acre corn maze, wagon rides, and two large play areas.

Scenic City Empress

Take a ride down the Iowa River on a 50-passenger double-decker pontoon and take in the beautiful scenery along the riverside. Experience limestone bluffs, wildlife, the historic swinging bridge, a man-made waterfall, as well as the amazing color of fall trees.

Stone State Park

If you are looking to do some hiking and enjoying the fall temps and colors. Take the beautiful drive to Stone State Park near Sioux City. Here there are 8 miles of hiking and running trails and the steep hills make it a challenge, but it is so beautiful.

Hawk Valley Garden

No fall season is complete without a trip to Hawk Valley Gardens. Located in Spencer, Hawk Valley Pumpkin Stand opens in early September and you will enjoy the small family farm. Here you will find over 150 varieties of pumpkins, squash, gourds, and other fall décor.

These are just a few destinations for you to enjoy. Load up your family in your classic and muscle cars and get out and soak up the beautiful fall scenery.
