Snap-On: The Best in the Automotive Tool Industry
When it comes to tool selection, Snap-On is the best choice for any job - big or small. Anyone who's worked on cars over the years knows that you can rely on their tools to get the job done without worrying about replacing them nearly as often as you would a cheaper, less reliable brand. From toolboxes to wrenches to scan tools, these quality made tools are worth every penny spent. That's why we at Farm Boy Garage trust Snap-On tools to get the job done. Let's take a look back at how Snap-On came to be one of the top producers in the tool industry.
"Five do the Work of Fifty"
In 1920, the dedication of two determined engineers revolutionized repair and made work easier for professional mechanics leading to the start-up of the Snap-On Wrench company. Joseph Johnson and William Seidemann saw huge success from the inception of their crude demo set. Production was ramped up with the opening of a 2,500 square foot manufacturing facility in Milwaukee, WI, and the first 500 orders were filled within six months. Throughout the 1920s, the Snap-on product line continued to grow. In 1923, Snap-on published its first product catalog. By 1925, there were 17 branches and 165 salesmen selling Snap-on hand tools direct to mechanics.
Explosive Growth Requires Expansion
The growth of Snap-On pushed for a need to expand, and their 2,500 square foot rented facility just wasn't big enough anymore. It was in 1929 that they purchased an eleven acre site on the outside of Kenosha, WI to house their manufacturing and general offices in one location.
Snap-on began a decade of explosive growth as it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1970. With the ever-increasing number and variety of products jumping by 30%, new facilities were needed. So, two new distribution centers were opened in Robesonia, PA and Carson City, NV to keep products moving efficiently, and a new facility in Bensenville, IL was dedicated to the research and development of new manufacturing processes. By the early 1980s Snap-On expanded direct sales to overseas, and in 1988 opened its first branch in Australia.
Mobile Franchise and More
Throughout the 1990s, Snap-on continued to expand product lines globally to better serve professionals in critical industries. Snap-on became the first mobile tool company in the U.S. to convert to a franchise operation, and has since acquired a number of global brands and technologies to be able to provide a wide range of tools and services. They've partnered with educational institutions to offer curriculum based training and certifications to students to increase career opportunities. To this day, Snap-On continues to strive to expand franchise networks to become more easily available for automotive technicians, and expand their product line to match the needs of shop owners and mechanics.
From technicians to shop owners and managers to dealership service and parts managers, Snap-on serves the ever-changing needs of a wide range of automotive professionals. Increasing vehicle complexity and emerging technologies continually spawn new repair problems that demand up-to-date solutions. Snap-on helps professionals keep pace with a continuous flow of new innovations in hand tools, power tools, tool storage, equipment, diagnostics, repair information and management systems.
